The Seattle Seahawks opted to release guard DJ Fluker in an effort to shore up some much-needed cap space. Center Justin Britt will be joining him.

According to Aaron Fentress of The Athletic, the Seahawks are set to part ways with Britt:

Seattle has ushered in some significant turnover to their offensive line following the 2020 NFL Draft. Not only are the moves indicative of their desire to free up some cap space, but it also shows how much confidence they have in their depth up front.

The decision to release Fluker helped to shore up $3.6 million in space and only $500,000 against the dead cap. Meanwhile, parting ways with Britt will save the Seahawks another $8.5 million for them to work with this offseason. There is ow plenty of speculation regarding whether or not these efforts are being made to bring back edge man Jadeveon Clowney.

Although losing two starters along the offensive line is hardly ideal, the Seahawks were sure to take precautionary measures. They managed to add center/guard B.J. Finney along with tackles Brandon Shell and Cedric Ogbuehi in free agency before taking LSU guard Damien Lewis in the third round of the draft.

The Seahawks became accustomed to replacing Britt during the regular season after a torn ACL cause him to miss the second half the 2019 campaign. Finley's versatility on the interior should allow them some flexibility. Meanwhile, Lewis will be battling Phil Haynes for the starting guard spot left by Fluker.
