Seattle Seahawks safety Bradley McDougald hasn't ever had his toughness questioned and it's for good reason because he has always tried to fight through injury.

McDougald revealed on Wednesday that he partially tore a patellar tendon in his right knee during the Seahawks week eight game last season.

“Since the Lions game, I was having trouble,” McDougald said via Pro Football Talk. “I was playing through a lot of pain and a lot of grief. I feel like I’m in a much better situation now, much more comfortable. The knee feels good, my body feels good.”

McDougald tried to rehab it this offseason but elected for surgery and should be ready for the start of the regular season.

McDougald should start the season as one of the starting safeties, but the question is which one. He said he is open to playing either position but would prefer to play in the box.

“I’m fully prepared to come in and play strong safety, really compete and battle with whoever,” McDougald said. “I can do both, but I prefer to play in the box and closer to the line of scrimmage. There’s just more for me to do there in the run game and the man-to-man coverages. But I’m always willing to do whatever to make the team work and be the best asset for the team. But I definitely intend to play in the box.”

Hopefully this season McDougald will stay fully healthy and not have to fight through any more injuries.
