The Seattle Seahawks strengthened their pass rush on Saturday by acquiring Jadeveon Clowney from the Houston Texans. Just a day later, Seattle has signed Jachai Polite to their practice squad.

In an array of surprising roster cuts on Saturday, Polite was released by the New York Jets just four months after being selected in the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft. Throughout the draft process, there were some red flags with Polite with his work ethic and motor coming into question.

Talent-wise, Polite was arguably a first-round pick but he fell to the third round to the Jets. Usually, third-round picks are virtually guaranteed a spot on the 53-man roster; as long as they don't do anything wrong off of the field.

The rookie edge-rusher played minimal time in the preseason with New York and finished with just four tackles. According to reports, Polite had accumulated $100,000 in fines for tardiness and other shortcomings off of the field. Basically, all of the question marks surrounding him in the draft process became reality.

That explains why a third-round pick in this year's draft went unclaimed during the waiver period. Luckily for the young pass-rusher, the Seahawks are giving him a chance to start fresh with a new team.

Over the course of Pete Carroll's tenure with Seattle. the organization has been open to bringing in players who have problematic characteristics. The team has opened its arms to players like Frank Clark, Tony McDaniel, and Jarran Reed.

As for Polite, the 21-year-old edge-rusher will remain on the practice squad and will have time to mature within the organization.
