With Earl Thomas being played on IR the Seattle Seahawks have signed safety Maurice Alexander to fill the void he left.

The Seahawks had signed Alexander as a free agent this offseason but he was one of the final cuts after the preseason ended. He had a good training camp and many expected that he would make the roster right out of camp.

Late in camp, he moved to weakside linebacker with KJ Wright being out with a knee injury. Pete Carroll was impressed with Alexander towards the camp and thought his flexibility was a big plus.

“It does help us. He’s got a lot of flexibility in that he can play ‘will’ (weakside linebacker) and safety,” coach Pete Carroll said Aug. 30, minutes after Alexander played linebacker for the first time in Seattle’s final preseason game, against Oakland via The News Tribune. “He really seemed to take it right off the bat, and he looked comfortable and made a couple hits and looked good in coverage. That’s a really good start. I’m going to need to see the film to really detect what there is to uncover there. But, he did a good job for us. We’re fired up to see that.”

Wright is still out and his replacement Mychal Kendricks was suspended indefinitely on Tuesday. He should come in right away and get a chance to play, even this weekend against the Los Angeles Rams he should get a lot of playing time. He knows the system being in camp so that is a big plus as he tries to get up to speed.
