Since arriving to the Seattle Seahawks six years ago, Pro Bowl defensive end Michael Bennett has been a mainstay on the defensive side of the ball. During this time, he has become one of the vocal leaders of the team in both regards on and off the field of play.

This has only become more evident over the last couple of years with his involvement in a few instances in each aspect that has created more attention toward the organization for better or worse. According to Gregg Rosenthal of The NFL Network, this has become one of the reasons why the Seahawks are looking to part ways with the 32-year-old.

This has continued to unravel with quite some interesting reasoning why the team would seriously consider parting ways with their star defensive end. It's hard to believe that the Seahawks believe that is one of the primary reasons why they want to move off of Bennett. He has been one of their most consistent players on defense over the last five seasons recording five or more sacks in each campaign while earning all three of his Pro Bowl selections. However, Seattle appears to be moving in another direction defensively with a few of their cornerstone players in cornerback Richard Sherman, and safety Earl Thomas also being mentioned in trade rumors.

Bennett is on pace to enter the first year of the three-year extension that he signed back in December of 2016. There is some financial incentive if the Seahawks were to move him saving them nearly $2.2 million in salary cap space next season while additionally taking on around $5.2 million in dead money charges. The Atlanta Falcons have also been rumored to have interest in acquiring Bennett, but nothing serious has developed up to this point in time. What this recent chatter further signals is that the Seahawks are prepared to move on from Bennett.
