It looks as though the old ball coach is smitten and won't shut up about it.

Steve Spurrier, head coach of AAF Orlando, is all about one specific NFL player and his name is Shaquem Griffin of the Seattle Seahawks. He's made it crystal clear his team will take the state of Florida product on if cut by the Seattle Seahawks this summer, via Jason Dill of the Bradenton Herald.

“He’d be the first one we’d go after,” Spurrier said. “I don’t think he’s going to get cut to tell you the truth. . . . But, obviously if he did, we’d have a spot for him right there.”

Griffin, 22, was the inspirational story behind the 2018 NFL Draft.

The UCF product, born with only one hand, defied all odds during his collegiate career. The story and family emotions all came to a fantastic head when the Seattle Seahawks—the same organization who employs his brother, Shaquill—selected him 141st overall (fifth round).

Spurrier, a man whose career has him extremely comfortable with Florida football, has apparently zoned in on Shaquem for quite some time now as the head coach of Orlando of the Alliance of American Football.

The new league will begin play next February, after the Super Bowl and strategically during the dead month of the NFL. Spurrier's words about Shaquem raises the question of just how the AAF will acquire players moving forward. Most figure the league will roster NFL fringe players looking for that extra bit of exposure.

Time will tell.
