Eric Reid has been the talk of the NFL today after signing a deal to play for the Carolina Panthers. Drama surrounded him all offseason and into the regular season due to no team signing him to a deal. Part of the issue surrounding him was the fact that he has shown such a strong stance during the National Anthem issue.

While the Panthers were the team that signed him, it is not exactly true to think that no other team was willing to bring him in. There was one other team that offered him a contract.

According to a report from Pro Football Talk, the Seattle Seahawks offered Reid a contract before Earl Thomas decided to stick with the team.

Seattle would have been a very intriguing destination for Reid. They run the type of defensive system that would fit his game perfectly. Pete Carroll likes his defense to move fast and hit hard, which describes Reid's game well.

Last season with the San Francisco 49ers, Reid was one of the most consistent and quality safeties in the NFL. He recorded 67 tackles to go along with a fumble recovery, two interceptions, and four defended passes. Reid's production speaks for itself when it comes to the kind of impact he can make for a defense.

Carolina is going to be a good fit for Reid as well. They have been searching for a hard-hitting safety that can make plays in the defensive backfield. Reid can be that guy for them, as well as a leader.

It will be interesting to see what kind of year Reid has with the Panthers. If he has a big season, it will be even more interesting to see what kind of market he develops in free agency.
