In the last several weeks, the Seattle Seahawks have made a committed push to reshaping their defense that has already seen the departure of a few cornerstone players. This has already featured the departure of several key players in cornerbacks Richard Sherman and Jeremy Lane along with defensive end Michael Bennett.

The front office is expected to go further along that plan of action over the next few weeks that should see a few more familiar faces on the move. According to Curtis Crabtree of Sports Radio KJR, the Seahawks will reportedly part ways with veteran cornerback DeShawn Shead on Monday.

The Seattle Seahawks will release cornerback DeShawn Shead on Monday to give him a chance to hit free agency after his contract tolled for the 2018 season, according to his agent Cameron Foster.

Shead has spent his first six seasons in the league with the Seahawks where he started 15 games in the 2016 season that included playing both Super Bowl XLVIII and Super Bowl XLIX. He has spent all but two games last season on the Physically Unable to Perform list totaling just a pair of tackles. His current contract could have rolled over to the 2018 season meaning he would have been under a deal for 2018 for $1.05 million due to missing almost all of last season due to injury that didn't allow him to play in at least six games.

However, the Seahawks are honoring their promise to allow him to enter the free agency period to test the market. The team still reportedly has plenty of interest in bringing him back on a new deal in free agency. There is still a chance that he could latch onto another team in free agency if a lucrative deal is presented to him in free agency.

Nonetheless, it has marked the third cornerback that the Seahawks has decided to part ways with ahead of the free agency period. There could be plenty more change ahead as the front office looks to retool the roster for a bounce-back 2018 season.
