Bleacher Report suggests Seattle Seahawks should pursue Anthony Barr in free agency
The Seattle Seahawks have made a significant push forward this season having secured a Wild Card playoff spot behind a revamped defense.
However, the team has experienced much change and injuries in their front seven throughout the season. With that in mind, Maurice Moton of Bleacher Report speculated that the Seahawks should pursue Pro Bowl outside linebacker Anthony Barr this coming offseason in free agency.
Seattle doesn’t need an established talent to replace linebacker K.J. Wright, who’s battled a knee injury through the year and is set to hit the open market at 30 years old. The coaching staff has developed a young group of playmakers. The defense ranks seventh in points allowed, in addition to 22 takeaways.
Even so, the Vikings didn’t extend Anthony Barr during the summer, though it came up as a hot topic. After seeing deals go to quarterback Kirk Cousins, wideout Stefon Diggs and defensive end Danielle Hunter, the three-time Pro Bowler could be the odd man out in Minnesota.
The potential addition of Barr would help further solidify their defense while giving them one of the better outside linebackers in the league. It would be a tough decision for the Seahawks to move on from longtime linebacker K.J. Wright, but he has struggled to work through injuries and is entering his 30s. Seattle could also opt to keep Wright and add Barr.
Seattle showed this past offseason that they are willing to cut ties with big names, having departed with many of their older talents such as Richard Sherman, Shelton Richardson, and Michael Bennett. The Seahawks are now operating in a purely business approach with these few decisions
If the Vikings are unable to work out a long-term deal with Barr or secure him under the franchise tag, he could be in play for the Seahawks if they choose to go that route.
