In the few days, there has been increased chatter around the Seattle Seahawks putting more consideration into moving star safety Earl Thomas.

This has once again ramped up the talk around the league with both the Dallas Cowboys and Kansas City Chiefs being mentioned as potential landing spots for the 29-year-old. With that in mind, Ian Rapoport of The NFL Network is reporting that the Seahawks still have a high price tag for any trade offers for Thomas, via h/t Derek Lewis of 247 Sports.

“For Seattle, this really would be about just price,” NFL Network's Ian Rapoport said on Monday. “First of all, they want Earl Thomas to be a member of the team this season. As far as going forward, they have not signed him to a long-term deal but he is under contract for the season. They refused a pretty good offer from the Cowboys after training camp, of a second round pick, before he showed up. Clearly, Seattle needs to be blown away. Remember, they traded for [left tackle] Duane Brown last year. Gave up a second rounder and change. They think Earl Thomas is much better. So it would be much more than they gave up for Duane Brown.

It is clear that the Seahawks don't want to end up short handed on a trade that would undervalue the return for Thomas. It is still a fluid situation that the team wants to finish out the year with him on the roster, but it has become increasingly more difficult as he had reportedly missed a practice or two last week.

There is some disgruntlement from Thomas about his standing with the franchise, which doesn't appear that new contract will be provided by the Seahawks. This has made a trade look like the only reasonable outcome at some point this year before the trade deadline. However, the high-asking price seems to be what's preventing a trade from being worked out.

This may be something that works itself out as the season rolls along as the Seahawks may eventually get the offer they are looking for in a trade for Thomas.
