The Seattle Seahawks appear to be cleaning house after a forgettable season in which they missed the playoffs. Along with the team trading Michael Bennett to the Philadelphia Eagles on Wednesday, rumors have been swirling about Richard Sherman being released by the team.

Although there's been no official word about Sherman being shown the door in Seattle, there's a lot of evidence showing he has indeed been released by the team. Perhaps the most telling piece of evidence is the All-Pro's mother, Beverly Sherman, taking to Facebook with a post that confirms he has been let go by the team that drafted him in 2011.

With Sherman's mother letting the word know her son is no longer with the Seahawks, it appears to be only a matter of time before the move is made official by the team. Seattle continues to make drastic changes during the NFL offseason and it is looking more and more like the beginning of an extensive rebuilding process.

Pete Carroll and company made be moving forward with their plans being to build around Russell Wilson in hopes of getting back on track as a legitimate threat in the NFC once again.

Last season, the Seahawks finished with a 9-7 record. Unfortunately for Seattle, it wasn't enough to clinch a playoff berth in the NFC and it appears to have marked the end of the team's dominance in the NFC West division.

With the Los Angeles Rams and San Francisco 49ers starting to make a lot of noise in the division, the Seahawks brass may have figured it was time to rebuild. The Rams bounced back from a disappointing first season in Los Angeles to win the division title and show a lot of promise for the future. San Francisco, however, had a rough year, but finished with five straights with a new franchise quarterback under center in Jimmy Garoppolo.

As for Sherman, even though he's coming off a torn Achilles tendon, the veteran corner will almost certainly receive interest around in the league from teams looking to bolster their secondary. There's no telling whether Sherman will be the same player after Achilles injury, but there will likely be a team willing to take a chance on the 29-year-old.
