Quarterback Cam Newton remains the biggest name on the free agency market. It appears the Seattle Seahawks are among the teams that could be looking to bring him in for the right price.

According to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, the Seahawks are reportedly open to signing Newton:

The Seahawks would be open to adding Newton — they get more creative with the free-agent market than most — but wouldn't pay much for a backup quarterback. Maybe that doesn't matter to Newton, who can prioritize fit over contract as he attempts to reignite his career. He would fit seamlessly in Seattle's offense, and starting jobs simply aren't available.

The fact that Newton is still available so late in the offseason certainly comes as a surprise to many. As a result, rumors began to swirl about Seattle's potential interest, and it seems to have gained some steam.

Newton has reportedly suggested that he is not looking to serve as an immediate backup in the 2020 NFL season. Meanwhile, the Seahawks have never necessarily been in need of one ever since quarterback Russell Wilson took over. Regardless, it appears the prospect of securing a surplus of talent under center is simply too good not to explore.

Newton already has a connection in Seattle after they signed tight end Greg Olsen. This would give the pair a chance to rekindle their old connection from the Carolina Panther days.

Of course, it remains to be seen just what kind of deal the veteran will be looking for in order to make it come to fruition.
