The Seattle Seahawks have yet to talk about a possible contract extension options with quarterback Russell Wilson, according to CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora.

At a time when a bevy of NFL superstars have received record contract extensions, and after an offseason in which quarterbacks Kirk Cousins, Matt Ryan and then Aaron Rodgers became the highest-paid player in NFL history, the Seattle Seahawks have yet to approach perennial All-Pro passer Russell Wilson about a new deal, according to league sources.

Wilson is entering his seventh season as the Seahawks' quarterback. At 5-foot-11, he became the shortest quarterback to ever win the Super Bowl in 2014. An impressive feat for a player in his sophomore season.

This has been a big year for major quarterback contracts in the NFL. Jimmy Garoppolo signed a five-year 137.5 million deal with the 49ers over the offseason. Just before the regular season began, Aaron Rodgers eclipsed Garoppolo's record-breaking deal with his own four-year $134 million deal. Rodgers received a whopping $103 million in guaranteed money.

Wilson stole the starting job from Matt Flynn as a rookie back in 2012. Since then, he's done nothing but perform for his team. To go along with his Super Bowl win, Wilson has won Rookie of the Year and gotten four Pro Bowl selections. He threw for a league-leading 34 touchdowns last year.

The 29-year-old will become an unrestricted free agent in 2020. Brett Hundley is his backup, but it's clear that he's no replacement for the dynamic Wilson. The Seahawks will be hard-pressed to find another player as versatile as him to put under center if they don't secure him long-term.

The Seahawks lost a close game against the Denver Broncos in Week 1 but will be energized to take on the Chicago Bears at Soldier Field in Week 2. If he heats up as the season moves on like he has in years past, he may be up for a big payday soon.
