Before he became a household name as the quarterback of the Seattle Seahawks, Russell Wilson was a baseball player. Friday afternoon he got to live the ultimate dream every kid that ever picks up a bat has. He got an at-bat with the New York Yankees.

Sadly, the dream did not end as well as he likely hoped it would. The mighty Russell struck out.

Wilson got his chance to play in a game for the first time since he played for the Colorado Rockies organization back in 2011. The Yankees had him pinch hit in the fifth inning for slugger Aaron Judge (no pressure there). He went up against Braves left-handed pitcher Matt Fried and got the count to 2-2 before striking out.

It’s just a spring training game, so why not—right?

Earlier in the week, the Yankees had said Wilson was not going to get an at-bat in a game. But, obviously, they changed their minds.

He may have Tim Tebow’s number when it comes to playing quarterback in the NFL. But it appears that Tebow’s got something on him when it comes to baseball.

The Texas Rangers traded Russell Wilson’s baseball rights to the New York Yankees in the off-season.

But aren’t the Seahawks concerned that their superstar quarterback is going to get hurt playing in a baseball game. As it turns out—no, not really. According to Darin Gantt of Pro Football Talk, Carroll was perfectly fine with Wilson playing baseball.

“Some guys are maybe traveling around the world, he’s playing baseball. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with that at all.”

Wilson and the Yankees are back in action against the Boston Red Sox on Saturday afternoon.
