The Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay provided an update on running back Darrell Henderson Jr. Wednesday. McVay said that he expects Henderson will be ready to play in Super Bowl LVI Sunday. He then provided further detail on how he would handle the running back depth.

“I think Darrell's going to go. So, you'll have Cam (Akers), Darrell and Sony (Michel). You'll be able to see a good, three-back rotation, based on how the game unfolds. The situations that arise will dictate which one you’re seeing. Like anything else, if we’re able to get into a rhythm running it, we’re going to go with the hot hand.”

There is generally nothing wrong with having an embarrassment of riches at any particular position. Akers was set to enter the season as the Rams starting running back. However, he tore his achilles prior to the season beginning.

That gave opportunity for Henderson Jr. to shine. He was Los Angeles' primary ball carrier for much of the season. He finished the regular season with 149 carries for 688 yards and five touchdowns. That's a 4.6 yards per carry average. Injuries began to plague him as the season wore on and he eventually was placed on IR and missed all of the playoffs.

In his absence, Sony Michel toted the rock for the Rams. Michel did a solid job, as he is a straight downhill runner who holds on to the ball and is a good blocker. But he lacks game-breaking speed.

Akers shocked the NFL by his return for the postseason. He only missed six months with his torn achilles.

It sounds as though all three tailbacks will get an opportunity Sunday. Only time will tell who will stay on the field.
