The Seattle Seahawks reached the pinnacle of NFL football when then won Super Bowl XLVIII in 2014.

Since the franchise began in 1976, it took them nearly four decades to climb up to that point. They've been trying to make it back up ever since. Along the way, they've had some tremendous players grace the gridiron wearing their Seahawks colors.

Let's take a look at the biggest legends in Seattle Seahawks history.

5. The Legion of Boom Trio

We just have to give a shout out to Seattle's deadly defensive secondary. The Legion of Boom rose to prominence in the early 2010s.

Led by the trio of cornerback Richard Sherman, and safeties Kam Chancellor and Earl Thomas, the Seahawks defense dominated the decade.

They helped Seattle win three division titles, two NFC championships, and their Super Bowl victory in 2014. The players who comprised the LOB were each dominant in their own right, especially the big three, but the defensive wall they formed together was historic for Seattle.

4. Russell Wilson, QB

While the Legion of Boom roamed on defense, Russell Wilson made sure they converted on the other end. By virtue of anchoring the franchise's only Super Bowl victory ever, Wilson already places himself in a league of one for the team's QB history.

He's been a perennial MVP candidate for most of his career and already tops Seahawks history in terms of wins, passing yards, passing touchdowns, completion percentage, and passer rating.

He's been a model of consistency while never missing a game, and has spearheaded the most successful era for the team since its inception.

3. Cortez Kennedy, DT

For all the great defensive players to be part of the Seattle Seahawks in the recent era of football, nobody has yet to reach the same level of defensive greatness as beloved defensive tackle, Cortez Kennedy.

He famously won the Defensive Player of the Year award when he posted 14 sacks in 1992, this despite his team going 2-14 that season. He became just the third player to win the award on a losing team.

He was named to six consecutive Pro Bowls from '91 to '96 and played his entire 11 season career for Seattle.

2. Walter Jones, OT

Seattle drafted Walter Jones with the 6th overall selection in 1997. Boy, are they glad they did.

He's considered one of the greatest left tackles in the entire history of the NFL. He started every single contest that he suited up for Seattle. That's 180 games.

In those games, he really didn't let much past him. He gave up just 23 sacks in the 5,703 passing attempts that he was a part of, while only getting called for holding nine times. Legendary.

1. Steve Largent, WR

The Seattle Seahawks first joined the NFL in 1976.

For the next 13 years of their existence, Steve Largent would cement his spot as the greatest player in the history of the franchise. He's started the most games for the team than anyone else at 197 games.

When he ended his career in 1989, he retired with the highest total of receptions in NFL history at 819, a mark that still ranks as one of the all-time best despite massive stylistic changes to the modern game.
