The sports world went mad last week when American sprinter Sha'Carri Richardson was disqualified from making Team USA for the upcoming Tokyo Olympics after smoking marijuana. Many athletes, from Patrick Mahomes to Damian Lillard, reacted in anger about the verdict.

While it's certainly disappointing that she isn't able to participate considering Sha'Carri Richardson is the fastest sprinter that was vying for a spot on the US team, she's not letting it bother her, per TMZ:

“Honestly, the news didn't bother me because me and my team were realistic about it, so we kind of figured they would say that in the first place.

“I understand the situation that's going on. I am accepting of it and I just know what I have to do to further my career.”

Sha'Carri Richardson smoked weed to cope with the loss of her late mother, which made her very stressed ahead of the US Trials in June. The IOC typically says that performance-enhancing drugs will result in suspension. She was facing a 30-day ban which would end in time for the 4×100 relay in Tokyo, but Team USA opted to not select her.

This doesn't make a whole lot of sense, but Sha'Carri Richardson is treating this like a true professional. Missing out on the Olympics is a massive blow considering this is what track athletes put their blood, sweat, and tears into, but she will now look ahead to further events after Tokyo.
