Pop sensation Shakira and Barcelona soccer star Gerard Pique have officially split up. The long-term couple announced the news in a joint statement released by Shakira's publicist.

“We regret to confirm that we are separating. For the well-being of our children, who are our top priority, we are asking for respect of their privacy. Thank you for your understanding” (via Metro).

The couple has two sons as a result of their 11-year relationship, nine-year-old Milan and seven-year-old Sasha.

This announcement comes just days after cheating allegations within the relationship were reported. According to these reports, Shakira found Pique in bed with another woman in their Barcelona apartment. Since then, they've reportedly been living apart from one another.

According to Metro, the couple met in South Africa in 2010, when Shakira was filming the video for her World Cup song, Waka Waka. Spain, with the help of Pique, won the 2010 FIFA World Cup that same year.

The soccer star has continued his stardom through his long career with Barcelona. Since joining in 2008, the 35-year-old has made 391 appearances and scored 29 goals for the club. This past season, Barcelona finished second in Spanish LaLiga with a winning record of 21-10-7. Pique played in 27 of the team's 38 2021-2022 league matchups.
