The Los Angeles Lakers seemed to have prepared well, although not by design, for life after Kobe Bryant.

Stacked with young and promising talents in D’Angelo Russell, Jordan Clarkson, Brandon Ingram, and Julius Randle, the future is definitely looking bright as they now focus on developing these studs.

As exciting as the prospects may sound, a tiny dose of reality is still needed, and this comes from the biggest physical force in team history – Shaquille O’Neal.

Prior to his Hall of Fame induction, O’Neal shared with reporters his thoughts on the Lakers’ near future.

“They’re definitely going to be exciting. But I don’t see them being a contender for a while. I mean, they’ve still got to go up against Golden State in the West, they’ve got to go up against OKC, still got to go up against Cleveland, the Rockets. So they have a long way to go to be a contender.”

The West is already filled with tough competition, and it also has another team that is on the same path as Los Angeles, but probably a couple of steps ahead, in the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Another factor that’s going in favor of Hollywood’s favorite team is the fact that they got one of the youngest and brightest minds in Luke Walton manning the sidelines. Barring any major setback, there’s nowhere to go but up for the Los Angeles Lakers.
