If there’s one thing about Omer Asik that can be likened to Hall of Fame center Shaquille O’Neal, it has to be the free throw shooting.

But outside of that aspect, the comparison stops. Asik is a role player and O’Neal is, well, Shaquille O’Neal.

The Hall of Fame center is truly a one of a kind athlete, and he hasn’t held back on giving his thoughts regarding the modern day NBA big men. In an article by John Reid for NOLA.com, O’Neal talked about Omer Asik and his role with the New Orleans Pelicans.

”He's a different type of player. Omer is basically a role player – ‘Master your role, that's what you've got to do.' They are not looking for him to get 20 points. They are looking for him to get some rebounds, at least 11 or 12 a game and a couple of blocks. Guys like that shouldn't have a lot of pressure put on him.”

”He's not really a scoring big man, so if set good picks and get guys open and be good) on defense, he'll be all right.”

Asik is fortunate enough to own a generous, yet highly untradeable, contract despite holding very limited skills. He’ll get another run with the Pelicans this season and is expected to make the most out of it with the team being very thin up front.
