It's not good to be Evander Kane right now. The San Jose Sharks left-winger is in the middle of a controversy after his wife accused him of making bets on his own games. It's a serious allegation that could get Kane in deeper legal trouble if proven in court.

Nothing has been proven yet, although the NHL has started to investigate the matter, as that could severely damage the integrity not just of the league, but the sport of hockey overall. However, the investigation appears to have hit a dead-end as of the moment, with Kane's wife unable to provide further information, according to A.J. Perez of Front Office Sports.

“NEWS: The NHL’s investigation of San Jose Sharks forward Evander Kane centered around allegations that he gambled on hockey has stalled, sources tell @FOS.”

Kane has denied the allegations of his estranged wife, which should not really surprise anybody. However, it might help his case that no flags have been raised with regards to anything suspicious on the betting trends of San Jose games during the 2020-21 NHL campaign.

“Outside investigators tapped by the NHL have so far been unable to interview Anna Kane, who alleged in a series of Instagram posts in July that he bet on his own games. An examination of betting trends for Sharks games last season didn’t show any abnormalities.”

If Kane's wife only intended to harm the 30-year-old skater's career, she's probably succeeding. Until Kane has been cleared up, the Sharks might elect to hold Kane back from joining any team activities.

Kane, who signed a seven-year deal worth $49 million with the Sharks in 2018, had 22 goals and 27 assists in 56 games last season.
