During his heyday, Shawn Marion was one of the best talents in the league.

Able to produce excellently on both ends of the floor, “The Matrix” was a key element to the Phoenix Suns’ success in the mid-2000s.

His best year with the team was in the 2005-2006 season where he averaged 21.8 points, 11.8 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 2.0 steals, and 1.7 blocks per game.

Already retired, Marion spoke with HoopsHype.com's Jorge Sierra and mentioned that he would have made a crazy sum of money had he played in today’s NBA.

“I probably would have $300 million. I would be better rated. I was great when I was playing and I had a great career. But now?! Sky is the limit.”

Obviously, that was said in jest. But there is no denying that Marion’s peak form would have warranted a very high price tag from teams. Still, that kind of talent should give back great value for money.

Considering that Marion’s biggest pay for a year was already considered as among the league’s most expensive back then, he could have easily gotten over $20 million annually on a long-term contract nowadays. Who wouldn’t want to lock-in someone like Shawn Marion?
