Shawne Merriman has made the cross-over from NFL player to MMA promoter. He currently has his own promotion, aptly called ‘Lights Out Xtreme Fighting.'

As a promoter and former NFL player, Shawne Merriman has big ideas for who he'd like to see compete in MMA. There are some big men that could be a perfect fit for the cage.

Shawne Merriman sat down with ClutchPoints and discussed who he wants to see come over from the NFL. He picked some very solid names.

“I would look at Khalil Mack, one of my favorite players to watch,” Shawne Merriman said. “Khalil Mack would be one hell of an MMA fighter. He has like a Francis [Ngannou] built to him, big tree trunk legs, and broad shoulders. Obviously, he's aggressive and physical, and relentless. I think that if he decides to pick up MMA he would be legit right away. I don't think it would take him long to be really good at it. Aaron Donald! I think if he came and decided he wanted to drop 20-25 pounds, which he could when you get off of the football field a lot of people drop weight, and fight at 265ish, be a heavyweight. He's got that low center of gravity, he can get anybody on the ground I'm sure, and just athletic. Guys like that, I think that- Drue Tranquill! From the Chargers! I think that he would be a hell of an MMA fighter. I think the Linebackers make the best and then probably the Safeties and Corners after that.”

Aaron Donald, Khalil Mack, and Drue Tranquill are very solid picks. The size and physical prowess would translate very well to MMA. Shawne Merriman has a keen eye for talent.

Shawne Merriman has been a busy man in the world of MMA. The promoter is putting together the best cards possible in the California region.
