As we get settled in with the new NBA season, trade rumors will begin to ramp up. After making the Western Conference Finals last year, the Portland Trailblazers have been one of the most disappointing teams this season.

Injuries to players like Zach Collins, Rodney Hood and Jusuf Nurkic have had a big part in the Blazers underwhelming season but when a team isn't living up to its potential, trade rumors begin to swirl.

One of the most popular rumors in NBA circles regards the future of New Orleans Pelicans star shooting guard Jrue Holiday. Despite earlier reports that Holiday was on the trading block, Pelicans Vice President of Basketball Operations David Griffin has stated that the franchise isn't trying to trade Holiday.

Regardless, everyone is available for a price and if a player of CJ McCollum's quality is involved, the Pelicans would have no choice but to at least listen to offers. So, sitting at 12-16 on the season, should the Blazers pull the trigger and try to land Holiday?

My short answer would be no, probably not. For one, I think Holiday and McCollum are on the same tier as far as impact. Holiday is a better defender than McCollum and is a better distributor, but I'd say McCollum is the better scorer and shooter.

With the Blazers ranking 22nd in the NBA in points allowed per game, Holiday's defense would certainly help but you'd also have to think that McCollum wouldn't be the only piece involved in this trade. What Portland has to give up and what they get in return definitely can swing this trade in either direction but as it stands, I think the Blazers should stick with the Dame and CJ duo.

The Blazers just signed McCollum to an extension in July that will keep the shooting guard in Portland until 2024, so it's clear that the organization believes they can win with McCollum at the two. And while they're not winning now, last year showed that Lillard and McCollum can be a dangerous duo come playoff time.

If Collins and Nurkic can get healthy and then newly-acquired Carmelo Anthony keeps playing like he is, I'd be surprised to see Portland not make the playoffs.

Do I think they'll return to the Western Conference Finals? No, probably not. But I think at this point, Blazers fans would be content with just being competitive in the postseason.

At 28 and 29 years old respectively, CJ McCollum and Jrue Holiday are both still relatively in their primes. With similar stats, I think a trade for Holiday would worsen the already problematic chemistry in Portland and wouldn't really improve the team by that much if at all.
