Sorry Paimon but Zhongli's sexy voice and wisdom would make him the perfect travel companion. Fans of the game marvel on how a 20+ year old, scrawny looking man sound like a narrator for National Geographic. You might even dream that you'll be spending your time together in a mall, but be wary as he wouldn't have the money to pay for your shopping bill. Given his poor financial skills and his insane thirst for knowledge means that a simple walk in a park is the perfect dating scenario.
But Zhongli is more than just your dream Tinder partner as his gameplay reveals him to be the perfect bodyguard. His fighting style puts Jean-Claude Van Damme and Jet Li to shame. If there are thieves sneaking their hands in your bag or wallet, expect him to deal with them with ease. His lack of financial literacy makes him poor against scammers though.
Given his aesthetics and his gameplay, is he worth wishing for? Let's further dissect.
ZHONGLI IS MORE OF A SUPPORT CHARACTER
Watching the gameplay trailers might bring a false assumption that Zhongli is a primary damage dealer, however this is misleading. Players realize that Zhongli's low physical damage doesn't make him suited for prolonged and direct combat. He offers his team damage resistance and crowd controlling abilities, making him more of a support character. Pressing his elemental skill summons a stone stele that resonates geo damage to surrounding enemies. Holding his elemental skill, causes an explosion and generates a shield that absorbs geo damage. His elemental burst on the other hand, deals damage and freezes his enemies.
Upgrading his constellations would make him a god-tier support as he could heal his teammates when shielded. However, this would require him to reach the highest levels.
CRITICISMS
Unlike the other supporting characters, Zhongli is constellation dependent. Maximizing his supporting role requires him to reach the highest levels. Other characters like Jean and Barbara can immediately heal the team, while Zhongli's healing only happens at level 6.
This makes him an extremely expensive player to build around as you'll have to hope that spending those primogems are worth it.
SYNERGIES
In the early phases of the game, Zhongli should be deployed as a secondary support. His purpose is to shield the team and unleash his burst. Given these factors, Zhongli partners well with another support option like Barbara, Jean, or Xingqiu.
Unlocking Zhongli's healing ability will make him the team's main support, allowing players to focus on a damage build with Childe, Keqing, Diluc, and Xinyan.
CONCLUSION
He isn't the ideal character if you're focused on a budget friendly build. However if the character design is enough to entice you, then acquiring him is a must. His charm and looks will leave you petrified and his fighting style is a martial arts movie made to perfection.
