Competitive players naturally gravitate towards high kill skills when assessing game performance. The players with the highest frags in any competitive game automatically rank on the top of the heap. However, kills aren't the only thing that wins games. There are certain ways low-killing players secure the victory for their team. The prominent shooter streamer Michael “shroud” Grzesiek recently discussed why people with the lowest K/D scores shouldn't feel bad. Kills matter a lot in games but they are not the only metric of success.

LIFTING THE SHROUD

Streamers often get elevated by their audience members. However, not all streamers hold skills that warrant admiration or worship. Shroud is one such exception due to his abilities. In a recent stream, one viewer asked shroud about how ranking at the bottom of the team at the end of a game. Shroud immediately went into teacher mode and explain the underappreciated value of the players at the bottom of the scoreboard. The FPS streamer used an entry fragger as an example in his short pseudo-lecture.

“Let's say you entried every round, you got so much space, and your team always traded, but you never got a kill… That's amazing, you did good.”

Naturally, getting low kills doesn't automatically mean you did a good job. Shroud further explains it's important to understand how you feel about your own performance in a game. What matters is you understand how you can impact the game without scoring kills.

“If you feel like you’re doing your part, and you can tell you did good, it doesn’t matter if you went 6-20. You can do good without having a good score. That’s just how these games work. It’s a team game.”

Shroud's words of wisdom extend beyond VALORANT or FPS games. The best Carries make games and championships exciting but they don't win trophies alone. Support players need more recognition because there's no endgame stat showing how well you helped. However, the fact remains that no games can be won with only a single person racking up kills.
