As soon as the Toronto Raptors were eliminated in this year's playoffs, speculations already emerged as to where their All-Star point guard, Kyle Lowry, would end up after this summer's free agency. Although his current team is still considered the frontrunner to secure his services once again, other teams could also make a run for him and offer an appealing package.

One of them is his hometown team, the Philadelphia 76ers. Not only did he grow up in Philly, but his former assistant coach in Villanova, Billy Lange, is now part of head coach Brett Brown‘s staff. In his article for TheSixerSense.com, Christopher Kline emphasized that Lange's presence with the Sixers could be an advantage in the team's bid to land Lowry in free agency.

“Kyle Lowry’s decision to attend his hometown school in Villanova several years back was influenced largely by then-assistant coach Billy Lange — who now works the sidelines for the Philadelphia 76ers.”

“On the surface, there’s already an obvious connection between the Raptors’ star and the city of Philadelphia. He grew up in Philly, attending Cardinal Daugherty High School on North Second Street and eventually made the decision to stay at home for his collegiate career, opting to play at Villanova. The implications behind that decision, however, are rooted far deeper than some may expect — and they could have a direct impact on Lowry’s interest in joining the Sixers.”

Lowry will be 32-years-old towards the end of next season, and with his age comes the desire to win a title. That said, the 76ers may not be the best team he could play for, especially with an up-and-coming roster whose core is made up of very young players. However, he could also further establish himself as an elite player in the league if he becomes their floor general and help bring more success to the franchise.

Wherever he decides to play next season, one thing that's certain is Lowry will not have any shortage of suitors come summertime.
