When veteran big man Al Horford signed a $109 million contract with the Sixers this past summer in free agency, no one saw him coming off the bench even though many pundits around the league knew his fit with stars Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons was questionable.

However, here we are. The Sixers are bringing Horford off the bench and now his future in Philadelphia is pretty up in the air moving forward.

According to Jeff Zillgitt of USA TODAY Sports, the Sixers could trade Horford this offseason to get more shooting on the roster:

Though the Sixers did not try to move Al Horford at the trade deadline, that might be a possibility in the off-season – if they can send that contract to another team and get shooting in return – a person with knowledge of the situation told USA TODAY Sports.

Horford has appeared in 55 games for the Sixers this season. He's averaging 11.7 points, 6.6 rebounds and 3.9 assists while shooting 43.6 percent from the field, 33.2 percent from beyond the arc and 72.1 percent from the free-throw line.

While the Sixers are on their way to making the playoffs barring an incredible collapse, head coach Brett Brown and his staff have to figure out which lineups are the most effective come playoff time, especially in the fourth quarter when the game is in the balance.

The Sixers are 37-23 on the season. They are in fifth place in the Eastern Conference standings.
