The Philadelphia 76ers have finally ended their search for the next piece that will help take their team to the next level. However, it is not a player that will bolster their already formidable lineup, but instead, comes in the form of a new team scout.

Per Ramona Shelburne of ESPN, the Sixers have recently hired 2007 WNBA first overall pick Lindsey Harding to be a full-time scout.

News about the team looking to add on a female scout first surfaced a couple of weeks ago. Questions were immediately raised regarding the intent of the deal. Were the Sixers looking to add a female scout just for the sake of gender equality? Harding herself did not consider her gender to be a factor, and believes that she is the best person for the job regardless.

“I think when you have this goal in mind, your gender shouldn't even matter,” Lindsey Harding told ESPN. “It should be about if you can do it, if you're good, you're experienced, if you know what you're doing and what you're talking about.”

For the 34-year-old trailblazer, this is only a first step. Harding has set her sights on a much higher post in the future.

“I would love to be in the front office and really understand how to put a team together,” Lindsey Harding said. “I still love being on the floor and having the opportunity to coach. But I really just wanted to get my foot in the door.”

Being only one of the few females in a sport dominated by men, Harding will undeniably have her work cut out for her. The obstacles she will face will be challenging, but if and when she succeeds, it will definitely be a right step towards breaking gender barriers in the league.
