How well is Philadelphia 76ers rising star rookie point guard Ben Simmons playing this season? Outside of being an absolute nightmare on offense to defenses to plan against, one metric created by Senthil Natarajan and Chris Pickard of FanSided shows that he is also the NBA's most versatile defensive player this season.

The extremely in-depth article written by Natarajan is something worth taking a look at from top to bottom.

“He’s an ultimate chess piece on defense, equal parts perimeter hound and paint patroller. It’s rare for rookies to have a positive, winning impact. It’s even rarer for rookies to come off the blocks hot on the defensive end, with so much schematic and off-ball complexity,” Natarajan said of Simmons.

Simmons is the complete package, especially on defense. He is able to flaunt his rare versatility with size, strength, and elite agility that gives him an advantage that most NBA players can only dream of having.

Even from a young age, Simmons was taught by his father to embrace his creativity on a basketball court.

“As soon as I was on the court, my dad told me to be creative and do what you want at a young age. I never thought about being a big guy and going to the post,” Simmons said, according to Sixers Insider Jessica Camerato of NBC Sports Philadelphia.

Currently in the driver's seat to win the 2018 NBA Rookie of the Year award, the 21-year-old Simmons is currently averaging 16.2 points per game on 53.5 percent shooting from the field, 7.8 rebounds, 7.7 assists, 1.7 steals and 0.9 blocked shots per game this season.
