Philadelphia 76ers star Ben Simmons has presented an explanation on his rather questionable shooting ability. According to the Sixers sophomore, no one has ever formally taught him the fundamentals of shooting the basketball.

This is quite an astounding revelation from one of the best young players in the game today. Simmons recently addressed the press at the Sixers' media day and started off by explaining that in the past, he has never found the need to rely on his shooting.

“Honestly, I’ve never needed to shoot,” he said, via news.com.au.

Given how he is able to easily force his way to the hoop, advancements in Simmons' mid- and long-range game took a backseat throughout his development. The 22-year-old went on to say that despite how he has been playing the game for much of his life, none of his coaches have taken the time to work on his shooting.

“I’ve never had somebody teach me how to shoot,” he explained. “It’s something I’m new at so I have all these people saying I can’t do this, well, obviously I can’t because it’s something I’m new at.”

“So really this is the first time I’ve had time to practice it and work on my shots.”

It is quite surprising that this is the first time the Sixers have addressed this particular aspect of Simmons' game. He has been with the organization for over two years now, and as it appears, the coaching staff had other priorities that had to be attended to more immediately.

Nevertheless, it is scary to imagine what kind of player Simmons can become if and when he is able to fine-tune his shooting skills. This is definitely going to be a treat for the Sixers faithful.
