Simmons has been dealing with the back ailment since late February. The first week of treatment for his injury will include a reduction of the inflammation around the impinged nerve. With no clear timetable set in stone, the Sixers are preparing to go on without him.
The loss of Simmons is obviously a tough blow for the Sixers. At 38-26 overall, Philly is currently holding the No. 6 spot in the Eastern Conference standings. Time will tell how the team fares without his services.
In his 54 appearances with the Sixers this season, Simmons has racked up averages of 16.7 points on 58.5 percent shooting from the field (33.3 percent from beyond the arc), 8.2 assists, 7.8 rebounds and a career-high 2.1 steals in 35.7 minutes per outing.
Whether nor not Simmons’ absence will extend beyond this three-week window remains to be seen. Though they’re in the postseason hunt, Philadelphia will be cautious with its approach to his return.
The Sixers will be back in action on Wednesday night, when they’ll serve as hosts to the Detroit Pistons. Tip-off inside the Wells Fargo Center is set for 7:00 p.m. ET.
