Tests on Sixers star Ben Simmons revealed he suffered nerve impingement in his lower back.

Simmons will be re-evaluated in approximately two weeks, per Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium:

There is some level of concern surrounding Simmons’ injury since back ailments are never to be taken lightly. The Sixers will clearly be cautious with the two-time All-Star moving forward.

Simmons has appeared in 54 games for the Sixers this season. He’s averaging 16.7 points, 7.8 rebounds and 8.2 assists while shooting 58.5 percent from the field, 33.3 percent from beyond the arc and 62.7 percent from the free-throw line.

The Sixers are 36-22 on the season. They are in fifth place in the Eastern Conference standings.

Most pundits around the league expect Philly to trade either Simmons or Joel Embiid after the season ends if the Sixers don’t go on a deep playoff run. Since both players do their damage in the post, the Sixers have a lack of floor spacing when the two All-Stars are on the court together.

The 76ers have lost in the second round of the playoffs the last two seasons. Head coach Brett Brown could possibly lose his job as well if Philly falters early in the postseason again.
