Philadelphia 76ers star Ben Simmons recently proved that he is more than an athlete by showing support for an embattled 17-year-old teenager back in his native of Australia.

James Dator of SB Nation explained the relevance of Simmons' choice of footwear in the context of the recent terrorist attack in New Zealand.

Simmons was paying tribute to Will Connolly, who’s become known as “Egg Boy”, the Australian teenager who was arrested after smashing an egg on far-right senator Fraser Anning following the massacre in New Zealand.

Here's a look at the infamous clip of Connolly egging the senator, which has elevated the kid to legendary status throughout the nation.

With his recent non-verbal statement, Simmons made it abundantly clear which side he's on in this highly-polarizing debate that has gripped pretty much the entire world.

Sure, Connolly was in the wrong for blatantly disrespecting a state-elected senator by throwing an egg to his face, but his sentiments have been backed by millions not only in Australia, but in other countries as well. Simmons is obviously on Egg Boy's side here, and in all honesty, you can't really fault him for the same.

Simmons made sure that his statement was delivered loud and clear, as he did his talking on the basketball court on Tuesday against the Charlotte Hornets. The reigning Rookie of the Year winner led his side to a 118-114 victory against the Charlotte Hornets, logging a game-high 28 points (on a pristine 11-of-12 shooting), eight rebounds, five assists, a steal, two blocks, and just one turnover in 38 minutes of play.

The Sixers will be on the second night of a back-to-back set on Wednesday as they take on the Boston Celtics in what is going to be a marquee matchup of the Eastern Conference elite.
