Philadelphia 76ers head coach Brett Brown is really happy the Sixers were able to steal Al Horford away from the Boston Celtics.

Horford signed a four-year, $109 million contract with the Sixers this offseason. For the past few years, Horford has defended Joel Embiid really tough when the Sixers and Celtics have played, so fans in Philadelphia are thrilled Horford is on their side now, as is Brown.

Al Horford averaged 13.6 points, 6.7 rebounds and 4.2 assists last season in Boston while shooting 53.5 percent from the field, 36.0 percent from beyond the arc and 82.1 percent from the free-throw line. He will start in the frontcourt next to Embiid at the power forward spot.

The Sixers now have four elite defenders in Horford, Embiid, Ben Simmons and Josh Richardson. Philly acquired Richardson from the Miami Heat in the Jimmy Butler sign-and-trade deal. Tobias Harris has the physical tools to be a stout defender. He just has to give more effort on a nightly basis.

Horford signed with the Sixers for a chance to win a title. We’ll see if Philly can accomplish its goal in 2019-20.

They have a good chance at winning the East now that Kawhi Leonard is out West on the Los Angeles Clippers.
