There was plenty of buzz surrounding the Philadelphia 76ers heading into the 2017-18 NBA season. Not only did they once again have the first pick in the draft, but their young core of talent was finally starting to look healthy.

Needless to say, the Sixers have followed through on that hype by getting off to a competitive 7-6 start. According to Keith Pompey of Philly.com, head coach Brett Brown is happy with the team's performance through the first 13 games.

“We all guess and project and do the math,” Brown said. “We’re ahead of schedule. We knew this schedule was going to be difficult. We anticipated difficult things at the start.”

Despite sitting at just a shade over .500, Philadelphia endured a difficult schedule to start the year with matchups against the Boston Celtics, Golden State Warriors, and the Houston Rockets — twice. Their solid start can largely be credited to the spectacular play of budding superstar Joel Embiid and rookie phenom Ben Simmons after facing similar roads to recovery during their first year with the Sixers.

While Philadelphia still has plenty of work to do, it is promising to see how well this young team has meshed together in such a short period of time. Despite the small sample size, Philadephia has cemented their belief in this group by finalizing a four-year, $62 million deal with forward Robert Covington.
