Aside from being the most patient man alive, Philadelphia 76ers head coach Brett Brown is also quite a soundbite factory. MassLive.com’s Jay King could vouch for that after Brown spoke to him about Sixers center Joel Embiid.
Brett Brown certainly is not referring to Embiid and the Sixers’ ability to listen to him in practices and in huddles, as it didn’t seem his team paid much attention to his instructions when they’re on the floor, committing a league-worst 16.0 turnovers per game last season.
Instead, it could be about Joel Embiid’s ability to adapt and ad lib on the court. Embiid played in just 31 games last season after being hampered by a knee injury but was able to top the Sixers in points (20.2 per game) and rebounds (7.8).
Brett Brown started coaching the Sixers in 2013 and has seen an unprecedented amount of losses since. Fully committed to The Process of former general manager Sam Hinkie, Brown stomached season after season of tanking in order for the Sixers to nail as many top draft picks as possible. One of them is Embiid, whom the team selected third overall in the 2014 NBA Draft. Embiid, however, only began playing last season after dealing with serious injuries. Despite all that, the Sixers still signed Embiid to a five-year, $148 million max extension.
