In light of the confetti raining down in the Alamodome in San Antonio with a convincing 79-62 Villanova win over Michigan, longtime Philadelphia 76ers power forward and now Turner analyst Charles Barkley predicted that the Sixers will win the NBA title this year.

Rounding out what has been an incredible year already for the City of Brotherly Love — first with the Philadelphia Eagles ousting the New England Patriots in the Super Bowl with a backup quarterback, then an expected, yet nonetheless Villanova title win with plenty of fireworks on Monday night — the Sixers could make this the perfect trifecta come June.

For now, the Sixers will look to take baby steps in that process, looking to win their 11th straight game tonight against the Brooklyn Nets, which would mark the first time doing so since Barkley led them to 12 straight in 1990, according to Keith Pompey of The Philadelphia Inquirer.

Philly has already locked down a spot in the postseason, but are fighting incessantly for the third seed in the Eastern Conference, which would give them a potential home-court advantage past the first round of the playoffs. They are only half-a-game behind the Cleveland Cavaliers, who they will face once more before the season ends when they host them on Apr. 6 — allowing the winner a full game of separation.

Last night was Villanova's second title win in the last three years, benefitting from an incredible shooting night from sixth man spark plug Donte DiVincenzo, who finished with a career-high 31 points on 10-of-15 from the floor and 5-of-7 from deep, not skimping on any highlight plays through his game-high 37 minutes on the floor.
