The Philadelphia 76ers edged out the New York Knicks in a thrilling 99 – 96 battle last Tuesday. Tobias Harris had a fantastic stat line as he led the team with 30 points. One of the solid performances from the team came from Dwight Howard. This led head coach Doc Rivers to give his take on what's behind Howard's good showing in a reserve role to the Associated Press.

“Probably the drinks he had in Puerto Rico, or wherever he was over the break,” Rivers commented.

Perhaps the big man drank a version of Michael's Secret Stuff from the Space Jam film?

Howard finished the game with a double-double of 11 points and 12 boards while contributing with three blocks for the Sixers. He has had to play more minutes than usual in the absence of MVP candidate Joel Embiid, who has been sidelined with an injury. Although he has been in the league for 16 years, he is still one of the better backup centers around.

These past few years, the future Hall of Famer has settled down nicely to his role coming off the bench, providing reliable defense and a lob target for his teammates. Parts of his ridiculous athleticism have been sapped and he is far removed from his peak where the team's offense would center around him, but he has greatly matured as a professional.

The next few weeks without Embiid will be challenging, but with the talent and depth of this Sixers squad, they can still be at the top of the Eastern Conference standings until the Cameroonian's much-awaited return.
