Philadelphia 76ers legend Julius Erving believes that the current Sixers team are already primed to take the next step towards achieving their ultimate goal. However, Dr. J also believes that there are still a number of significant aspects lacking within the team.

Erving recently shared his thoughts on the matter with Marc Narducci of The Inquirer, and claimed that he believes that the puzzle remains unfinished.

“The team is not complete,” Erving said. “I think the team has the core, which is very important to have, and now you have to get the tentacles, you have to get the role players and then you have to get the surprise guys that are better than you thought they were…”

Nevertheless, the 68-year-old acknowledged how special this group is and how players like Joel Embiid can take the team to the next level. However, he has also made it abundantly clear that in order to achieve this end, Embiid will need to take more of a leadership role in the team.

“Joel is really a guy who has shown no weakness from a skill standpoint, offensively or defensively, so I think he just has to be more of a leader, maybe more of a vocal leader and probably in terms of night in and night out, doing things with matchups on the court that would allow him to be a consistent  force,” Erving said.

The Sixers are unquestionably one of the most promising teams in the NBA today. Glory is theirs for the taking, but as Erving has pointed out, it will not be a walk in the park.
