Philadelphia 76ers center, Joel Embiid, might add to his career internationally as the French national team confirmed its interest in the big man. This could see the No. 3 pick in the 2014 NBA Draft representing France in the upcoming Olympics, if they are to successfully recruit him.

Embiid was born in Cameroon and moved to the United States at the age of 16. He recently mentioned that he has some family living in France and that is the only connection with Embiid and the French.

Evan Fournier, a staple with the French national team now, is not so thrilled about this idea. The Orlando Magic guard even refers to it as “ridiculous.” There has been no further explanation on why Fournier thinks that way, apart from his tweet. France is currently at the no. 12 spot in the EuroBasket standings.

Embiid is averaging 23.5 points, 10.8 rebounds, and 3.4 assists per game. He also scored 15 points, with 10 rebounds and five assists during their game against the Celtics at The O2 Arena in London last week.

The 76ers are currently in the ninth spot of the Eastern Conference. They have a 20-20 record after their 117-11 victory over the Toronto Raptors at the Wells Fargo Center.

Embiid contributed 34 points, 11 rebounds and three assists in that game.
