The playoff series between the Toronto Raptors and Philadelphia 76ers has had its contentious moments so far, but none have been more so than when Kyle Lowry and Ben Simmons got tangled up during Game 3.

After going up for a rebound and landing on top of Lowry, Simmons and Lowry seemed to get tangled up, with Simmons ending up underneath Lowry and seemingly sending an elbow into Lowry’s groin. While players had some stern reactions to it during the game, J.J. Redick offered a more amusing appraisal of the incident on Saturday.

Speaking to the media ahead of tomorrow’s Game 4, J.J. Redick described the play as “weird,” but had a different outlook than some others.

“It looked like he intentionally put his butt in [Ben’s] face,” he said of Lowry, per ESPN's Dave McMenamin. “That was weird.”

Of course, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Redick try and back his teammate up on this, but the fact is that the NBA has already ruled against Simmons here. Upon reviewing the footage, the league fined Simmons $20,000 and assessed him a Flagrant Foul 1 for hitting Lowry.

This isn’t the first time that Simmons and Lowry have gotten into things, with the two of them having a history of that dates back to last year. For both teams, they’ll be leaning on their starting point guards to keep cooler heads when Game 4 tips off, as the Sixers need Simmons if they want to take a commanding 3-1 series lead, and the Raptors will need a far better performance and from Lowry if they want to tie the series up.
