The Indiana Pacers showed plenty of interest in signing Sixers shooting guard J.J. Redick during the early days of free agency, but the potential to snatch the sharpshooter quickly evaporated.

The Pacers had a deal in line, being an hour or two away from agreeing to terms with Redick before the Philadelphia 76ers stepped up their offer.

“(Indiana) ended up getting Tyreke (Evans), which is a great signing,” J.J. Redick said in his self-titled podcast. “He's a fantastic player.”

Indiana made their first splash of the offseason by netting Evans' services, which freed the way for Redick to re-negotiate with the Sixers.

“Then, you have to go out and get a contract offer,” Redick continued. “In the back of my mind I'm thinking well, if something happens where I can't go back to Philly, and the market dries up, what do you do?”

During a previous podcast, Redick had listed the city of Indiana as his least-favorite to visit during the NBA season, for which he apologized profusely, considering the Pacers brass showed interest in him.

“I feel really bad about that because it's a nice city with a lot of just wonderful people,” Redick said.

Luckily for the Sixers, they managed to get their 3-point sniper back for next season — a partnership that has boded well for both parties, as Redick put up a career-high 17.1 points per game with Philly, shooting 40 percent or better from deep for the fourth straight season.
