Jerryd Bayless may not be viewed as an important piece for the Philadelphia 76ers heading into the 2018-19 NBA season, but he is a solid depth piece for the bench. Unfortunately for Bayless and the Sixers, the veteran point guard may miss some time due to an injury.

According to a report from Serena Winters of NBC Sports Philly, Bayless suffered a left knee injury during Sunday's team practice. There was no news about the severity at this point in time.

Throughout the offseason, there were rumors that the Sixers could look to buy out Bayless' contract. That did not end up happening, and he was planning to be a bench piece for Brett Brown.

Last season with the Sixers, Bayless ended up playing in 39 games and started in 11 of them. He put up 7.9 points per game to go along with 2.1 rebounds and 1.4 assists. Those numbers show why he is a quality piece to have coming off the bench.

At 30 years old, Bayless is a scoring guard who is capable of hitting from 3-point range. He is also able to use his speed and quickness to get into the paint.

Losing Bayless would not be a huge blow for the Sixers, but it would weaken their bench. Having a veteran guard who is capable of scoring the ball effectively is something every contender needs.

Philadelphia is expected to be one of the top contenders in the Eastern Conference. Hopefully, Bayless only suffered a minor injury and will be able to make his return to the court soon.
