With the season officially coming to a close on Sunday night for Jimmy Butler and the Philadelphia 76ers, the former Most Improved Player of the Year winner will now embark in what could be a career-defining offseason as an unrestricted free agent.

Butler recently spoke with Marc Narducci of The Inquirer, and the four-time All-Star described how he believes he should be able to secure a max deal wherever he chooses to go.

“Technically I think, knock on wood, I will get a max contract anywhere I choose to go,” Butler said. “So if you are talking a four-year, five-year, that is more than enough money anyway. I think I still have more than enough money now from my first deal.”

This may sound a bit overconfident from a guy who literally forced his way out of his former team, the Minnesota Timberwolves, just a couple of months back, but in truth, such is his quality as a player that his statement here should absolutely come to fruition.

As for the Sixers, they are hopeful that Butler finds the motivation to stay in the City of Brotherly Love and sign that extension deal. Butler had nothing but good things to say about the franchise, and also shared how delighted he is with the type of reception he has been given by the city.

“As long as you play hard, the city loves you; and give your all, that is all they ask of you,” Butler said. “It has definitely been fun to meet and interact with the fans and the people in the organization and absolutely everybody is amazing.”

At 29, Butler is at the peak of his career, and still has a good number of prime years left in the tank. Any team — be it the Sixers or otherwise — will be lucky to have him on their roster. That is, of course, if they are willing to pay the price he demands.
