J.J. Redick of the Philadelphia 76ers is taking all the necessary antics to avoid his teammates being traded, even sitting next to teammate TJ McConnell during flights.
Per Jackson Frank of The Athletic, Redick got extra cautious after the Jimmy Butler trade. To recall, the Sixers arranged a trade package which included several key players — Jerryd Bayless, Robert Covington, Dario Šarić and a 2022 second-round draft pick — in exchange for Butler and Justin Patton.

Redick has been an intrinsic part of the Sixers success over the last season and a half. He's currently averaging 18.1 points per game (a career-high), as well as 2.8 assists and 2.3 rebounds. He's also draining 2.9 3-pointers per game, which is also a career-high.
It's safe to say that his offensive capabilities and veteran voice are great assets to the relatively young Sixers squad. But Redick, who's been in the league since 2006, knows that anything can happen in the NBA. If the team sees fit, then they won't hesitate to trade a player away.
So we really can't blame Redick and his superstitions. Especially if sitting next to McConnell is his way of keeping his teammates from being traded.
The veteran sharpshooter is 34-years-old and might be at the tail-end of his career. He's part of a team that's a legitimate playoff contender. Before he hangs it up, Redick would definitely love to snag a ring with the Sixers. Luckily, he can veto any trade that might send him away.
