A very peculiar story involving Philadelphia 76ers shooter J.J. Redick and an alleged caged person inside the trunk of his car rental recently made headlines. After being on the receiving end of some harsh criticism on Twitter, the Sixers guard has fired back.

For a brief backstory, Redick was on his way home from a photo shoot with his wife and her sister when they suspected that something or someone was in the trunk of the car they had rented. The car's driver checked the trunk, but claimed that there was nothing there. However, Redick claimed to have seen something that resembled a caged person in the trunk and immediately reported the issue to the authorities.

This is no April Fool's joke. This incident really happened, and the events were recounted by Redick himself on his podcast.

The Twitterverse was quick to pounce on Redick and called him out on his inaction. If there really was a person — and a child at that — trapped in the trunk of a vehicle, then surely the right thing to do would have been to try and rescue the victim.

What Redick actually did immediately after his discovery remains unclear. The 6-foot-4 shooting guard made things even more ambiguous when he tried to clap back on his critics on Twitter.

Redick is now backtracking on his initial statement and is now saying that there may not have been a caged person in the first place.

This is definitely one of the most bizarre stories we have come across, and sadly, it is nowhere close to being resolved. We will continue to monitor this situation and relay any updates accordingly.
