Philadelphia 76ers star Joel Embiid spoke about his recent bout with COVID-19 and how difficult it was for him. Since returning to the Sixers' lineup, Embiid has struggled at times, both with his play and conditioning. The Sixers star offered a grim update on these post-COVID struggles.

That's honestly not surprising. Embiid isn't the first athlete- or even the first Sixers player- to struggle with conditioning or playing after having the virus. True to form, the Philadelphia star noted that he would never use it as an excuse.

Embiid returned to the Sixers with a monster, 42-point effort against the Minnesota Timberwolves, seemingly announcing his triumphant return. However, the two games since have been struggles from an efficiency standpoint, something Embiid acknowledged.

The star Sixers center is right about teams doubling him and his need to set up his teammates. Even a version of Embiid that's struggling to make shots still commands an awful lot of defensive attention, which should give the big man plenty of assist opportunities if his shots aren't falling.

That shows the kind of teammate and player that Joel Embiid is for the Sixers. The shots may not be falling, he may not be feeling great about where he is post-COVID, but he's still going to find a way to help the team win.

That's the mark of a true star.
