Slowly but surely, Philadelphia 76ers superstar big man Joel Embiid is establishing himself as one of the best centers to have ever played the game.

Sunday afternoon against the Milwaukee Bucks, Embiid finished with a monster stat line of 40 points, 15 rebounds and six assists. The Sixers defeated the Bucks, 130-125, and showed the world they are legitimate title contenders.

It was Embiid's second game with 40-plus points, 15-plus rebounds and five-plus assists. He's the only player since 1983 to do that more than once in his first three NBA seasons, according to Basketball Reference.

Joel Embiid missed the first two years of his NBA career due to injuries. There was a time when fans thought he was going to be the next Greg Oden.

Since making his NBA debut in 2016, however, Embiid has shown he's no Oden. The 25-year-old has career averages of 24.1 points, 11.3 rebounds and 3.1 assists while shooting 47.9 percent from the field, 31.1 percent from beyond the arc and 79.0 percent from the free-throw line.

This season, Embiid has taken his game to another level and it's a big reason why the Sixers have a chance to win the Eastern Conference. The two-time All-Star is putting up 27.3 points, 13.6 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.0 blocks. Embiid has 52 double-doubles and one triple-double on the season.
