Philadelphia 76ers star Joel Embiid won't play on Saturday against the Cleveland Cavaliers. The Sixers say Embiid has a left hip contusion.

Embiid and the Sixers lost to the Washington Wizards on Thursday. Embiid played 35 minutes and finished with 26 points and 21 rebounds. However, Embiid also had eight turnovers.

The Sixers are 15-7 on the season, good for fifth place in the Eastern Conference standings. Embiid is averaging 22.6 points, 12.7 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game on the season. He's shooting 45.9 percent from the field, 31.8 percent from beyond the arc and 81.3 percent from the free-throw line.

Josh Richardson is still out for the Sixers with right hamstring tightness. In his first season in Philly, Richardson is averaging 16.1 points, 3.4 rebounds and 3.6 assists in 16 games. He’s shooting 45.6 percent from the field, 38.6 percent from beyond the arc and 80.0 percent from the free-throw line.

Since it’s a long season and the Sixers have championship aspirations, it’s smart for the organization to be careful with Richardson and Embiid. Ben Simmons and Tobias Harris will have to carry the load on offense against the Cavs. Philly should be able to defeat Cleveland without Embiid and Richardson.

Embiid has career averages of 24.1 points and 11.6 rebounds with the Sixers. He's turned into one of the best players in the NBA.
